Could you briefly introduce yourself? Tell us a little about yourself, your background and what led you to become a photographer.

I was born in Bayonne and grew up in Dax, in the Landes. To tell the truth, photography didn't interest me at all at first. It was while preparing my BAC in Bordeaux that everything changed. There I met a friend who was passionate about photography and who introduced me to her world. Curious, I began to explore this new world, testing different techniques and subjects.

This period of experimentation allowed me to refine my style. Then, I had an incredible opportunity: the association "Keep a Breast" lent me a housing for underwater photography. Being already a passionate surfer at that time, it was quite natural that my photos were oriented towards the ocean.

It opened up new perspectives for me and allowed me to attract the attention of a few brands.

At the same time, I worked at Carhartt in Hossegor as a salesman and manager for seven years. It was the ideal compromise: I worked six to seven months a year and traveled the rest of the time. These trips to Indonesia, Australia, California, Sri Lanka, Morocco were essential for me. They allowed me to develop my photography while discovering new cultures and broadening my horizons.

But one day, while I was in Australia, I got a call from the manager of the Carhartt store. He told me that the store was closing and that I had to find another job. By that time, I had been doing photography for three years and was starting to get clients. So I made a bold decision: to focus fully on photography for a year. If it worked out, great; if not, too bad, I would look for something else.

Fortunately, everything went well. My dedication paid off, and since 2015, I have been a full-time professional photographer.

We know that you love the South-West and that you have lived there for a long time now. What inspires you the most in the landscapes of the Landes?

What inspires me the most is the tranquility and beauty of the Landes. My grandfather was a forester, so I have always been surrounded by the Landes forests. I love these landscapes and I never get tired of them. In summer, the air smells of resin, and walking on the beaches is a pleasure. Even in winter, I go to see the ocean every day, it is rejuvenating. Here, everything is healthy and simple, it is a perfect place to recharge your batteries.

Why did you choose film as your first camera and how has it influenced your photography style?

I started with a film camera that a childhood friend lent me, which marked the beginning of my photographic adventure. With a group of friends, when I was in Bordeaux, we set up a DarwinCustom workshop, that's where I was really able to discover and explore film photography. I took photos of my friends, motorcycles and events, and I pushed the experience to the point of developing my own prints in the photo lab that we had set up under the skate park ramp in Darwin. It allowed me to understand the basics of photography and find my own style.

Film, with its constraints and high cost, pushed me to think about each shot and value each shot. But given the financial cost of film, I gradually made the transition to digital. This move gave me the flexibility and speed to experiment more, while maintaining the depth and attention to detail I had acquired with film. This combination allowed me to push the limits of my creativity and refine my style even further.

You offer your services in different areas such as weddings, events, portraits, among others. Among these various types of photographic projects, which ones do you prefer and why?

I don't do weddings anymore, I leave that to other photographers. What I really love is sports and especially surfing. Nothing can compete with the feeling of being in the water, with my feet in the sand, capturing the raw energy of the waves and the surfers. Being close to the sea is essential to me, it's where I feel most inspired and connected to my passion.

On the other hand, I have to admit that photographing surfing is really not easy. To capture beautiful images, I need a housing to protect my equipment. It's heavy and bulky and you have to constantly swim against the current, but every successful shot is worth it to me. It's in these moments that I feel truly alive and fulfilled as a photographer.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to get into professional photography?

To succeed as a professional photographer, you need to be rigorous, tenacious and motivated, because it is above all a job of passion. You also need to be aware that equipment is expensive and that clients do not always have a large budget.

At the beginning, you will probably have to accept projects that you do not necessarily like, which can be discouraging. You also have to learn the legislation related to photography, such as copyright, because it is a crucial aspect of the profession. I also think that photographers who are starting out should be better supervised, because there is a lot to know in terms of legislation.

What are some of the most memorable places you have visited for your work as a photographer?

Indonesia was an incredible experience for me, especially places like Sumatra, Lombok and Bali. Exploring deeper Indonesia really left a mark on me. The way I travelled and the open-mindedness I developed made me see my work in a new light.

Byron-bay is another place that left me with unforgettable memories and where I captured some of my most beautiful photos. The turquoise water and the heavenly setting made shooting easier and added a touch of magic to my work.

Can you share with us a particularly inspiring moment that you experienced during one of your travels and how it influenced your photographic work?

A very inspiring moment, and this time unrelated to surfing, is when I went to Sumatra with my friend Thomas. We visited the island of Simeulue and on the way back from the trip we decided to stop at the village of Bukit Lawang in Sumatra, famous for its orangutans, one of the few places in the world where you can still see them in the wild. We decided to go hiking in the middle of the jungle with a guide. After a whole day of walking under a blazing sun and high humidity, we spent the night in the wild, sleeping on the ground with a simple tarp as a tent.

It was an exceptional evening, cut off from all civilization, no network, human exchanges and discussions around a fire. I had all my photo equipment with me. In the morning, when we woke up, a mother orangutan was right in front of our camp, peeling pieces of wood that we had burned the day before. Her baby was with her and was feeding her. It was an incredibly intense moment. I was the first to get up, I sat for a few minutes watching them and it was simply crazy. This experience triggered in me a deep emotion and sensitivity that has deeply influenced my photographic work.

Can you tell us more about your current projects, both personal and professional? Do you have any particularly exciting or ambitious projects in the works at the moment?

Since last year I have started my own studio where I mainly focus on product photography.

We have an increasingly saturated market, especially where I live, so I realized that it was super important to stand out. By setting up my studio, I can offer unique services that other photographers can't.

I work a lot on innovation, I try to anticipate the needs of my clients and to propose original solutions. At the moment, I am focusing on the possibility of approaching new clients by offering them the rental of my studio. Brands can thus rent the space for their photoshoots, and I even go so far as to offer the possibility of photographing cars. It is an exciting and ambitious project on which I am fully invested at the moment.

Why did you choose to become a Morex ambassador? What attracted you to this brand?

I became a Morex ambassador because I have known the guys behind the brand for a while: Kevin and Simon, long before they started Morex. What really attracted me to this brand was its universe. Being passionate about motorcycling, surfing and cars, Morex represents a real melting pot of everything I love. Their aesthetic and universe perfectly match my tastes and interests.
